Work I’ve done

I’ve been a web developer for around ten years, during which time I’ve had two web development books published and become a long-standing beta tester for Adobe. As a full–on geek, I’m passionate about web standards to the point that I lose sleep agonising over markup. Despite that, I also have a life and spend my spare time going to gigs, taking photos and cooking vegetarian meals, as my Flickr account will confirm.

To date, my career can be divided up into the following chunks:

Freelance Web Developer [current position]

Web Developer: Gateshead, England

As of March 2010, I’m back to being a full–time freelance Web Developer.

Skills used: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, & Fireworks.

The Eye Fund [charity work]

Web Developer: Stockton-on-Tees, England

Writing and maintaining standards-compliant HTML & CSS; integrating and skinning WordPress into a custom-built PHP & MySQL site

Skills used: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, Photoshop & Fireworks and copywriting.

Linkage: http://eyefund.info/

Fawthrop McLanders: Digital Media

Front-End Web Developer: Newcastle, England

Writing and maintaining standards-compliant HTML & CSS as the front-end to a custom-built ASP.NET CMS.

Skills used: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ASP.NET/C# (basics), Photoshop & Fireworks.

Trig.com (Adocca Entertainment AB)

Web Developer: Stockholm, Sweden

My time there was spent mainly as a front-end developer, writing and maintaining standards-compliant HTML & CSS, but also included copywriting (I wrote the FAQ, Help, and Using Trig pages), public relations, and marketing. This involved anything from being the official press release voice of Trig, through to liaising closely with bands such as Lostprophets and Funeral For A Friend to help give them the look they need and fine tune the site to musicians needs.

Linkage used: HTML, CSS, Ruby on Rails, Photoshop & Fireworks, and copywriting

Conker Media (Mersey TV)

Web Developer: Liverpool, England

Writing and maintaining standards-compliant HTML & CSS and creating graphics, Flash games and TV adverts for the following sites: Hollyoaks, Grange Hill, Channel 4, Mersey TV

Skills used: HTML, CSS, Photoshop & Fireworks, Flash, JavaScript.

Linkage: Due to the constantly changing nature of these sites, none of my work is online these days.

Friends of ED (Apress)

Author and Technical Reviewer: Liverpool, England

I’ve had two books published by Friends of ED, but as Technical reviewer, I reviewed drafts of books and web pages, suggesting amendments where necessary.

Skills used: HTML, CSS, ColdFusion, Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop & Fireworks, and a touch of copywriting.

Freelance

Web Developer: Liverpool, England

Musicians I’ve done work for in the last ten years: Rico, Radiator, Therapy?, Andy Rourke (ex-Smiths), Kant, Leon, Miriam Lamen, Alexandra Scott, Red Delicious, Lunarclick.

Linkage: None of this work is online these days, due to bands breaking up and/or moving on.
